A to Z: Artist

02 July, 2015

Newish series!

So I thought this whole "A to Z About Me" thing I've seen other bloggers do sounded kind of fun and a great way to not leave this place quite so quiet.

First up is A.

I wish I had the confidence in my "talent" to call myself an artist. But I supposed to notion as to whether or not something really IS an artist is in the eye of the beholder. Kind of like being an athlete i.e. "If you have a body, you're an athlete".

As a kid, if you would have asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, one of my chosen professions was to be an Artist. I was constantly drawing and doodling, coloring outside of the lines of my coloring books.  But as I grew older and the freedom to explore dwindled, so did my dream of becoming an artist.

Over the last few years, I've been rediscovering that creative side of myself. The side that wants to create something with my own two hands, whether it be a new crochet dog toy for Bandit, a poem, or a painting. There is a joy and a comfort in filling that part of my soul. It's amazingly satisfying to start with a blank canvas and end up with a beautiful piece of art, flaws and all.

Although I still have a lot to learn and a lot more practicing to do, rediscovering that childhood dream of being an artist has been a wonderful experience.
