Lookback: January '15

31 January, 2015

It's hard to believe that January has already come and gone.

I'm not sure I'm totally ready for February, especially January is going out with me having a wicked head cold which means February is being ushered in with the same head cold. Awesome.

January was full of its ups and downs, as per usual. But what would life be if it wasn't even the tiniest of rollercoasters?

I attempted not one, but TWO fitness related challenges this month: 30 Plank Challenge and Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (i.e. Standing Big Toe Pose) yoga challenge.
  • I am happy, yes that is the right word, happy to say I finished the plank challenge but cannot hold a plank for 5 minutes. I've decided that is impossible. Even though I did them daily, following the schedule, I did have to take short breaks to reset myself when the times increased. I think the longest I ended up holding one for was just over 2 minutes which, I think, is impressive.
  • The yoga challenge though? Not so much. I was good for the first week, week and a half and then it all fell apart. I started incorporating some yoga poses to my post-run stretches and then never really did a full sequence or flow beyond my Sunday morning class.

I read not one, but THREE books this month!
I have been kicking some pretty good ass in the running (and walking) department, which I am super proud of. My totals for the month were:
  • Running: 43 miles
  • Walking: 35 miles
  • Total Miles: 78 miles

I signed up with a new personal trainer but am still on the fence about it. I wasn't expecting things to be the same as when I trained with D, but thus far things are falling well below expectations.

I started painting again! And it has been glorious. It's been a great stress reliever and I have a plan to write about it.

I wrote about some of the random stuff people have said to me lately. And I shared some of my favorite apps that keep me going as well as the random stuff I carry in my gym bag.

Here is to closing out one month and welcoming in another!
