A 1 and an 8

05 July, 2012

Sweet mother of pearl. Seriously.......this heat has got to go! I mean come on. 89 degrees, but feels like 98?! No, it feels like we're trapped in the depths of pun intended since Hell does exist here in Michigan.

In fact, we've got it all! Where else can you get married in Paradise, honeymoon in Climax and live in Hell but here in Michigan!

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but it seems to be getting worse in the sense that more people keep asking me about it.

The question: How much weight have you lost?

Yes, there is a number. Yes, I tweeted it the other day because I was SHOCKED at what that number was. And no, I'm not going to tell you for two reasons: 1) I'm not actively trying to lose weight, it's just happening all on it's own because of a few lifestyle changes I've recently made (one of those changes being that I'm making a conscious effort to let go of the negative self talk and thinking which has plagued me my entire life) and 2) I don't like to talk about it. I'm kind of like Jennifer Aniston in Office space----my weightloss is like my flair and I don't like to talk about my flair.

When I participated in this link-up two weeks ago, it was the first time (in I think my entire life) I posted what my dress size was and it was by far, one of the most liberating things I think I have done in recent years. Seriously. Two number side-by-side: a 1 and an 8. Those two seemingly innocuous numbers being put out into the world was like lifting a giant weight off of my shoulders. It was and still is one of the strangest things because that number doesn't mean anything. My dress size means about as much to me as my shoe size. I mean really, when was the last time you heard someone lamenting the fact that they wore a size 9 rather than a 71/2?

So, I'm joining up again this week to not only show off another of my favorite dresses (and sassy red shoes!) but also to be part of a community of ladies that I feel like is helping to foster something we all definitely need from time to time: acceptance for who we are just the way we are.

Dress: Old Navy

Shoes: Target

  1. Pretty lady! :) I think it's so easy to fall into having a negative self image these days. It's something I struggle with, try to deal with, and am actively trying to change about myself, too!

  2. I love the dress and shoes. You always wear the cutest stuff.
